Lift Station Pump Service in Lake Worth Beach, FL

Lift Station Pumps · Lake Worth Beach, FL

Septic lift station repair when the alarm sounds

A lift station pump moves wastewater uphill when gravity cannot do the job. When the pump stops, the alarm sounds and wastewater can back up into the house. Jojo Septic offers lift station pump service for homes and small properties. We work in Lake Worth Beach and across Palm Beach, Broward, Martin and St. Lucie Counties.

The alarm can mean a stuck float or a pump that has failed, and we repair or replace both. Trouble in the tank itself falls under septic tank repair. If sewage is coming up in a drain right now, call or text (561) 239-5838 for emergency septic service. We look at the job and put the quote in writing before any work starts.

How does a septic lift station work?

A septic lift station is a pump set in its own compartment or tank. Florida's septic rule requires one when the septic tank sits too low to feed the drain field by gravity. Some systems also have a pump on the line from the house to the tank.

Float switches inside the chamber rise and fall with the liquid. At the pump-on level the pump starts, and at the pump-off level it stops. The state's rule also requires an audio and visual high water alarm to warn of pump failure.

In wet flatwoods areas like Wellington and Port St. Lucie, the water table can sit near the surface for months. Florida's septic rule requires the drain field bottom to sit at least 24 inches above the wettest-season water table. On a low lot, that can mean a drain field built up on fill, higher than the tank. A lift station pump then moves the liquid up to it.

Signs a sewage lift station needs repair

The high water alarm is meant to be the first warning. It means the level in the chamber is rising and the pump is not keeping up. Cut back on water as soon as you hear it.

A sewage smell around the tank and chamber lids can be another sign. If the pump stays down, wastewater has nowhere to go and can back up into the house. The University of Florida extension service lists slow drains and soggy ground as signs of a failing system.

Some of these signs start in the tank or the drain field instead of the pump. We start by finding which part failed. Call or text (561) 239-5838 and tell us what you see and hear.

Lift station repair or pump replacement around Lake Worth Beach

An alarm does not always mean a new pump. A float switch can stick or wear out, and then the pump never gets the signal to start. A new float can put the station back to work. If the pump runs but the line out of the chamber is clogged, hydro jetting can clear it.

When the pump itself has failed, the job is pulling it out of the chamber with its discharge pipe. A new pump goes in its place. Florida's septic rule calls for a pump suited to sewage effluent. Wiring that leaves the chamber must run in sealed conduit under the same rule.

Florida's septic rule also says swapping in like kind mechanical or electrical parts does not count as a repair. Repairs to a failing system need a permit from the county health department. Whether your job needs one is that office's call, and we point you there.

FAQ

Lift Station Pumps Questions, Answered

Common questions about lift station pumps around Lake Worth Beach and the Palm Beach to St. Lucie area. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (561) 239-5838

How long can I use water after the lift station alarm goes off?
There is no set time. Florida's septic rule sets the pump levels low to leave reserve room in case the pump fails. How long that room lasts depends on the chamber and how much water the house uses. Keep water use to a minimum until the pump is running again.
How much does lift station pump service cost?
The price depends on what failed and how hard it is to reach. A stuck float is a smaller job than pulling and replacing the pump. A deep chamber, or one that has to be pumped out first, adds work. We look at the lift station and put the quote in writing before any work starts.
What happens to a lift station pump when the power goes out?
The pump runs on electricity, so it stops when the power does. The University of Florida extension service advises avoiding household toilets until the power is back and the system is reset. If the alarm stays on after the power returns, call or text (561) 239-5838.
How do I find the lift station on my property?
The alarm is usually the easiest part to spot. Florida's septic rule puts it where the people who use the system can see it. The state's septic system owner's guide says the site plan with your permit shows the system's approximate location. If you do not have a copy, the county health department may have one.
How often should a septic lift station be checked?
The University of Florida extension service advises a septic system inspection at least every three years. A system with a lift station adds the pump and its alarm to that check. We can test both during a septic tank inspection.
What kinds of lift stations do you work on?
We work on lift stations at homes and small properties across Palm Beach, Broward, Martin and St. Lucie Counties. That means the pump and the float switches that run it. A city's own sewer lift stations are the city utility's job. The full list of towns is on our service areas page.
