How often should a septic tank be pumped in Florida?
Florida's environmental agency and the University of Florida extension service both say every three to five years. The timing depends on how many people live in the home and how much water they use. A tank that goes too long can block up and back waste into the house. The extension service also says to have the system inspected at least every three years.
What are the signs of a septic problem?
The University of Florida extension service lists foul odors from drains or around the tank and drain field. Slow drains in the house are on its list too. So is standing water or spongy ground around the tank or the drain field. If the wet spot sits over the field, ask about drain field repair.
What should I do if my toilet backs up?
Stop flushing and running water, and keep people and pets away from the sewage. The University of Florida extension service says to wear boots and waterproof gloves for the cleanup. Wash with soap and water, then disinfect with a quarter cup of bleach in a gallon of water. Call or text (561) 239-5838 about emergency septic service.
Does Jojo Septic do plumbing?
No. Jojo Septic is septic only, and repairs to the pipes and fixtures inside the house belong to another trade. Call or text us about a septic backup, the septic tank, a lift station pump or the drain field.
How does pricing work?
We price each job after we look at it. For septic tank pumping, the size of the tank and how easy the lid is to reach both matter. On a repair or a new system, the soil and the permit rules for the lot count too. Call or text (561) 239-5838, and the quote comes to you in writing before you decide.
Does septic work need a permit in Florida?
Florida law says a septic system needs a permit before it is built, repaired, changed or abandoned. Routine pumping is not a repair under the state's septic rule, and neither is replacing a broken lid. In Palm Beach, Broward, Martin and St. Lucie Counties, the county health department issues septic permits. That office can tell you whether your job needs one.
How do I find my septic tank lid?
Start with the county health department. It may have the site plan from your system's permit, which shows about where the tank sits. Outside the house, look for the cleanout on the sewer pipe and follow that pipe toward the tank. A septic tank riser brings a buried lid up to the surface, so the next pump out needs no digging.
How do Lake Worth Beach soils affect a septic system?
Most of Lake Worth Beach sits on deep, fast-draining sand, federal soil surveys show. Those surveys note that wastewater can pass through this sand too fast to filter well. Lower ground near Lake Osborne and the canals has wetter soils. The state's septic rule sets a drain field's bottom at least 24 inches above the wettest-season water table.
What areas do you serve?
Lake Worth Beach sits at the center of our service area, which reaches about 50 miles around it. That takes in Palm Beach, Broward, Martin and St. Lucie Counties. Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Wellington and Loxahatchee are part of it. So are Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs, Pompano Beach, Stuart and Port St. Lucie.
